
Mark Shaw formed Then Jerico in 1983 and after just 7 live concerts were signed in 1984 to London Records in Britain & Europe and
to MCA Records in the USA. After releasing 2 limited edition 12” singles, Then Jerico wrote and released two platinum-selling
albums: ‘First – (The Sound of Music)’ in 1986/87, and ‘The Big Area (Outside)’ in 1989, both albums featuring a string of hit singles
including smash hits including ‘Muscle Deep’, ‘The Motive’ (the highest played record on BBC Radio 1 in 1987), and ‘Big Area’, ‘What
Does it Take?’ (featuring Belinda Carlisle) and ‘Sugar Box’. The band enjoyed huge commercial and critical international success,
touring the world, performing their legendary incendiary live shows to huge crowds and played charity events including shows for
the British Royal Family and The Queen Mother and King Charles III.
Their hit single ‘Big Area’ was also included on the 1989 Hollywood blockbuster film ‘Slipstream’ which received a Royal Premiere. In 1990, Mark signed as a solo artist to EMI Records to write and release his critically acclaimed album ‘Almost’ in 1991 featuring two
hit singles: ‘Under Your Spell’ and ‘Love So Bright’. Since then he has released several studio and live albums on independent labels
and continued to perform live throughout the world. In 1996 he also enjoyed considerable radio and club success in Spain with dance
re-recordings of 3 of his 1980’s Then Jerico singles.
Mark’s high-energy live shows are in demand across the world to this day and he performs in 3 different formats: as Then Jerico rock
band; as Then Jerico Acoustic duo; and as Mark Shaw:Then Jerico solo artist – singing live to backing tracks. In August 2024 he
released a 4 x CD Then Jerico retrospective on the Cherry Red label featuring the complete recordings on London Records, including
the first 2 studio albums, all the 7” & 12” singles, B-sides, rare 12” remixes and 7 x 24 track demos. 17 of the tracks have never been
previously released on CD.
